VIDEO: UDA MP Ndakwa Pleads With Restless Malava Crowd Chanting Sifuna And Wantam At Tense Gathering
Newly elected Malava MP David Ndakwa of the United Democratic Alliance faced open resistance from locals on Thursday while addressing a gathering in his constituency.
The crowd repeatedly interrupted him with chants of Sifuna and Wantam. The chants signal a strong preference for Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and the opposition slogan against President William Ruto’s continued leadership.
Visibly frustrated Ndakwa urged the residents not to heckle him. He asked to be allowed to praise Ruto and express support for the President.
He noted that there is still time for people to weigh their options. He added that voting remains a democratic right. In one widely shared clip he is heard acknowledging their admiration for the senator while trying to steer the conversation back to his message.
The incident underscores growing political tension in parts of Western Kenya. Malava has historically leaned towards the government of the day. Ndakwa won the 2025 by-election on a UDA ticket and the victory was seen as a consolidation of Kenya Kwanza influence in Kakamega.
His latest reception suggests that Sifuna’s rising profile and the Linda Mwananchi movement are resonating even in areas once considered friendly to the ruling coalition.
Videos of the exchange spread quickly on social media. Many users read the chants as proof of shifting ground in Luhya land ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Supporters of the MP framed his response as a call for tolerance and democratic debate. Critics viewed the moment as confirmation that selling the UDA agenda in the region has become harder.
Ndakwa is a former Kakamega County Assembly minority leader and a three-term MCA for Kabras West. He has stressed development and education as well as the continuity of projects.
