Fresh Poll By Mussa Dankwah Unveils NPP May Face Internal Breakdown Ahead of 2028 Election
A new poll by Global InfoAnalytics has raised questions about the possible impact of internal disagreements within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on its performance in the 2028 general election.
The research, released by the organisation’s Executive Director, Mussa Dankwah, examines how voters within the NPP could respond depending on whether Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia or Kennedy Agyapong wins the party’s presidential nomination.
The survey suggests that if Bawumia becomes the NPP’s candidate, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson could benefit from dissatisfaction among some party supporters. The figures indicate that approximately 11% of NPP voters would cross over to support Ato Forson, compared with 10% for Haruna Iddrisu, 9% for Asiedu Nketia, and 8% for Julius Debrah.
The potential shift appears more significant among supporters who wanted Kennedy Agyapong to lead the NPP. According to the poll, 21% of these supporters would vote for Ato Forson if Bawumia were chosen as the flagbearer. Another 17% would back Haruna Iddrisu or Asiedu Nketia, while 14% would support Julius Debrah.
The results show a different pattern if Agyapong secures the NPP nomination. Under that scenario, 13% of Bawumia’s supporters would vote for Ato Forson, while 15% would choose Haruna Iddrisu. The corresponding figures for Asiedu Nketia and Julius Debrah are 9% and 7%.
Dankwah believes the findings point to a possible problem for the NPP before the 2028 polls. He warned that divisions over the party’s leadership could affect its chances if steps are not taken to bring supporters together.
He stressed that maintaining unity and adopting an effective campaign strategy would be important for the party as it prepares for another major electoral contest.
The poll highlights the possible consequences of a divided support base, although the figures represent survey findings rather than a prediction of the final election outcome.
