Big News for Ghanaian Traders as GEPA Launches Friday Market at Accra Trade House
The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Investment Promotion Authority (GIPA), Simon Madjie (Esq.), has praised the Ghana Export Promotion Authority (GEPA) for launching the Accra Trade House Friday Market, an initiative expected to give Ghanaian businesses more opportunities to promote and sell their products.
The initiative has drawn attention to the need for stronger support for local businesses as Ghana continues to look for ways to grow its economy, create jobs and increase the market for locally made goods.
According to a post shared by SIKAOFFICIAL, Madjie commended GEPA for introducing the Friday Market, saying it would help more Ghanaian businesses showcase their products, reach new customers and create greater opportunities for Made-in-Ghana goods.
The initiative is expected to provide a platform where local producers and business owners can display their goods to potential buyers. For small businesses that struggle to attract customers and compete with imported products, such opportunities could make a real difference.
Many Ghanaian entrepreneurs face challenges such as high production costs, limited access to markets and difficulties in promoting their products beyond their immediate communities. A market that brings different businesses together could help some of them overcome these barriers.
However, the bigger question is whether the Friday Market will deliver lasting benefits to local businesses or remain an initiative that attracts attention only during its early stages.
Ghana has several businesses producing food, clothing, cosmetics, crafts and other locally made goods. Yet, some producers continue to struggle to secure steady customers despite the growing calls for Ghanaians to support local industries.
The success of the Accra Trade House Friday Market will therefore depend on more than its launch. Regular participation by buyers, effective promotion, affordable access for small businesses and continued support from the relevant authorities will be important.
GEPA’s role in promoting Ghanaian products is also important as the country seeks to expand exports and help local businesses compete in international markets. Stronger local demand can give producers a better foundation to increase production, employ more workers and improve the quality of their goods.
Madjie’s commendation highlights the importance of cooperation between public institutions in supporting businesses and creating opportunities for local producers.
Nevertheless, business owners and the public will want to see measurable results, including increased sales, new customers and improved access to markets.
