Asantehene Chairs Council Sitting as Gyaasehene Passes Away
The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, presided over a sitting of the Kumasi Traditional Council at the Manhyia Palace, where traditional leaders gathered to deliberate on matters of importance to the council and the wider traditional community.
During the sitting, Nananom of the Sefwi Wiawso Traditional Council formally notified the Kumasi Traditional Council of the passing of their Gyaasehene, Nana Mensah Aborampah. The delegation from Sefwi Wiawso used the occasion to officially inform the Council of the demise of the revered traditional ruler, in line with customary practice that requires such announcements to be made to the Asantehene and the Kumasi Traditional Council.
The notification formed part of the formal customary processes observed following the death of a chief, particularly where the deceased traditional ruler had ties with the Asantehene and the Kumasi Traditional Council. The Sefwi Wiawso delegation was received with the dignity and respect befitting such an occasion, as Nananom acknowledged the loss and extended their sympathies to the bereaved traditional council.
The sitting underscored the enduring relationship between the Kumasi Traditional Council and other traditional councils across the country, as well as the importance of customary protocols in maintaining unity and mutual respect among traditional authorities. Such gatherings also provide an avenue for traditional leaders to deliberate on issues affecting their communities and to reinforce the bonds of solidarity that exist among the various traditional areas.
The Asantehene’s presidency over the sitting reflects his continued role in fostering harmony and cooperation among traditional rulers, while the formal announcement by the Sefwi Wiawso Traditional Council marks the beginning of customary arrangements that will follow the passing of Nana Mensah Aborampah. The occasion served as a reminder of the deep cultural ties that connect traditional councils and the significance of honouring departed leaders through established customary practices.
