Alan Kyerematen Says He Will Return To NPP Only If They Replace Bawumia With Him As Flagbearer

According to a report by The BBC Ghana yesterday which was Thursday, October 22, 2026, founder of the United Party (UP), Alan Kyerematen, has indicated his willingness to return to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) ahead of the 2028 general election, provided he is given the opportunity to lead the party as its flagbearer.

Kyerematen made this known during an interview with DW Africa, where he discussed the political future of the NPP and the strategies he believes could help the party regain power in the next general election.

According to him, the values and principles associated with the United Party could play a significant role in determining the NPP’s chances of returning to government in 2028. He believes that incorporating these values into the party’s political direction could help strengthen its position and improve its appeal to voters across the country.

The former NPP presidential aspirant further suggested that he understands what it would take to lead the party to victory if he were given the flagbearer position and the necessary authority to direct its affairs.

Kyerematen expressed confidence that, with the opportunity to take charge of the NPP, he would be able to identify and implement the strategies required to secure victory in the upcoming elections.

His comments come at a time when the NPP is considering its leadership options and preparing for the 2028 general election. The party is expected to make important decisions regarding its presidential candidate and the direction it intends to pursue to win back political power.

Kyerematen’s remarks have brought renewed attention to the possibility of his political reunion with the NPP, although his return appears to depend on whether the party would be willing to meet his stated condition.

As the 2028 elections approach, his position could become part of the wider discussion about the NPP’s leadership, unity and prospects of returning to government.
