I Impregnated a 14-Year-Old Girl and Fled Ghana 13 Years Ago — Man Confesses

A 41-year-old man has expressed fears about returning to Ghana after revealing that he left the country 13 years ago when a teenage girl he had sexually abused became pregnant, an incident that forced him to flee before the police could arrive.

According to his account, he met the girl while living in a compound house, where she stayed with her mother in a room next to his, and although she was only about 14 years old at the time, he gradually developed an inappropriate relationship with her instead of maintaining the boundaries expected of an adult.

He said the girl regarded him as an uncle, and because they saw each other almost daily, they became familiar with one another, with the man admitting that he abused the trust she placed in him and allowed the situation to develop into a sexual relationship.

The man also disclosed that he provided financial assistance to the girl and her younger brother, allowing them to spend time in his room and use his belongings, while their relationship remained hidden from other residents of the compound because they took steps to conceal what was happening.

The situation reportedly came to light when the girl became pregnant, raising questions among people living in the house about the identity of the person responsible, with a neighbour said to have discovered the pregnancy before the matter spread among the residents.

He admitted that the girl eventually identified him as the person responsible for the pregnancy, leaving him fearful of the consequences as other residents turned against him over his actions towards the underage girl.

At the time, his visa was reportedly close to being ready, and he said he used the opportunity to leave the compound during the night before the police could arrive, eventually departing Ghana nine days later.

Since leaving the country, he claims he has had no contact with the girl and does not know whether she gave birth, what happened to the child or how she continued with her life after the incident.

Now that he is preparing to return to Ghana, the man says he has begun thinking about locating the woman and the child who may have been born from the relationship, while considering whether he should apologise and accept responsibility for the harm he caused.

He also expressed a desire to marry the woman and potentially take her and the child abroad, although his plans come after more than a decade without contact and a past involving the sexual abuse of a child.

His greatest concern, however, is whether the girl’s family reported the matter to the police and whether any investigation or criminal case remains open against him.

The man is therefore seeking guidance on whether to return to Ghana and attempt to locate the woman and the child or obtain legal advice before travelling, given the possibility that he could face criminal proceedings over his past conduct.
