A Whole Minister Your Priority For The Past One Month Is To Fight DStv – Omanhene Fires Sam George

Media personality Omanhene Kwabena Asante has questioned Communications Minister Sam George’s decision to devote considerable attention to the dispute between the government and MultiChoice, the company behind DStv.

During a discussion on Adom TV, Omanhene argued that the minister should be dealing with more urgent challenges in Ghana’s communication sector instead of spending weeks focusing on DStv subscription fees.

The presenter pointed out that Sam George had been involved in a prolonged disagreement with MultiChoice over the company’s subscription price increases. He also referred to the minister’s warning that the company’s licence could be suspended, insisting that the minister lacked the power to carry out such a threat.

Omanhene said the poor performance of mobile networks and internet services deserved greater attention. He explained that unreliable connections remain a daily concern for many people, yet, in his view, the problem has not received the level of attention it needs.

He added that Ghanaians expect ministers to tackle issues that affect the wider population and improve essential services rather than allow one corporate dispute to dominate their work.

“For one month, your biggest issue is DStv? Really? What about the terrible network problems everywhere in this country?” Omanhene asked.

His criticism has divided public opinion. While some Ghanaians share his view that the minister should concentrate on improving network services, others believe Sam George is right to question MultiChoice’s pricing decisions and push for fairer subscription charges.

As the debate continues, Omanhene’s central argument is that improving internet and mobile connectivity should receive more attention from the Communications Ministry.
