2027 Election: When Politics Meets Requirements Of Law, Electing Candidates Becomes An Option — Gumi
In a post on his official Facebook page on Friday, October 23, 2026, Islamic cleric Dr Ahmad Abubakar Mahmud Gumi has urged Nigerians to respect differing political opinions, avoid insults and violence, and pray for good leadership rather than resorting to hostility over political disagreements.
The cleric argued that voting should be understood as an expression of personal opinion, adding that electing candidates becomes an option when political processes meet the requirements of the law. “Voting is an opinion! When politics meets the requirements of the law, electing candidates becomes an option,” Gumi wrote.
Gumi cautioned Nigerians against allowing political disagreements to degenerate into personal attacks, suggesting that differences of opinion are a normal part of political engagement. “Therefore, don’t let anyone confuse you with the name of the dule except what you disagree with religion. That’s why Mu’awiyah and Ali (ra diyallāhu ‘anhumā) are politically disagreed. So, who are you that will not be insulted?” he wrote.
Gumi called on people to express their political views without resorting to abusive language, curses, violence or deception. “Everyone should follow his own opinion without insults, curses, stoning people or stoning and lies or deceit,” he stated.
The cleric also criticised people who become involved in politics with the intention of engaging in violence, warning against political participation that leads to fighting and loss of life. “Anyone who joins politics to kill or fight and kill, this is a firefighter, as it comes in a good Hadith,” he added.
He further maintained that leadership ultimately rests with God, urging Nigerians to pray for leaders who can govern well rather than allowing political differences to create hostility. “Leadership belongs to God, He gives to whom He wishes. Therefore pray that God gives you good leaders without fighting and hatred,” he concluded.
