Beto Bianchi Sends Warning to Sundowns Ahead of Crucial Champions League Showdown

Beto Bianchi Warns Sundowns: Wiliete Coach Expects Tough Pretoria Battle

Wiliete Sport Clube de Benguela head coach Beto Bianchi has acknowledged that his team faces a difficult challenge against Mamelodi Sundowns in Pretoria, despite praising the South African champions for the warm welcome extended to his side.

The Angolan outfit will meet Sundowns in the decisive second leg of their CAF Champions League second preliminary round tie, with both teams determined to secure qualification for the group stages of Africa’s premier club competition.

Bianchi admitted that playing away from home presents additional challenges for Wiliete, particularly as his players must adjust to the conditions and atmosphere surrounding the encounter.

Speaking during the pre-match press conference in Pretoria, the Wiliete coach expressed appreciation for Sundowns’ hospitality while making it clear that his team understands the magnitude of the task awaiting them.

“The welcome here in Pretoria, Mamelodi Sundowns have been very supportive. We know that with the match, it is going to be a little bit tough as we know that the match was tough before,” Bianchi told journalists.

He added that the return fixture would require further adaptation from his players, especially given the advantage Sundowns enjoy by playing in front of their home supporters.

“This second time it is going to be challenging, knowing that we are playing in their house and there will be more adaptation from us,” he explained.

The first leg in Angola ended in a goalless draw, leaving the tie finely balanced ahead of Friday’s decisive encounter at Loftus Versfeld Stadium.

Sundowns will have home advantage, but they cannot afford to underestimate their opponents after Wiliete demonstrated their ability to frustrate the defending African champions in the opening fixture.

For Bianchi, the challenge will be ensuring that his players remain disciplined, organised and mentally prepared to handle the pressure of competing against one of the continent’s most established clubs.

Wiliete will need to make the most of their opportunities while maintaining defensive concentration against a Sundowns side renowned for its attacking quality and possession-based football.

The encounter comes amid heightened attention following reports of an alleged altercation involving members of the two technical teams after the first leg in Angola. Sundowns head coach Miguel Cardoso has since played down the controversy, emphasising the importance of respect and keeping the focus on football.

With qualification for the Champions League group stages at stake, both sides now face an important examination of their continental ambitions.

Sundowns will be eager to use their home advantage to secure progression, while Wiliete will hope to produce a determined performance capable of upsetting the South African giants.

Bianchi’s comments suggest that his team understands the challenge ahead. However, Wiliete will travel into the contest believing that a disciplined display could give them a genuine opportunity to compete for a place in the next round.
