Former Kaizer Chiefs Midfielder Siyethemba Sithebe Joins Fourth-Tier Flamingo FC
Former Kaizer Chiefs and AmaZulu midfielder Siyethemba Sithebe has begun a new chapter in his football career after being unveiled by Flamingo FC, a club competing in South Africa’s Hollywoodbets Regional League, the country’s fourth tier.
The 33-year-old midfielder’s move marks a significant change from the level at which he previously competed. After establishing himself in the professional game and representing some of South Africa’s recognised clubs, Sithebe will now look to rebuild his career with the regional league outfit.
Sithebe had been without a club since February 2025, following the termination of his contract at Richards Bay. The decision reportedly came after an alleged altercation involving the player and members of the coaching staff in the dressing room.
His time at Richards Bay was limited, with the midfielder making only eight appearances before his departure. The situation brought an uncertain period in his career, leaving questions about where he would continue playing.
Before joining Richards Bay, Sithebe had enjoyed spells at Kaizer Chiefs and AmaZulu. He made 39 appearances for Amakhosi, while his time at AmaZulu saw him feature 121 times. Those numbers reflect the experience he brings to Flamingo FC as he prepares for a different challenge.
The midfielder also earned eight caps for the South African national team, Bafana Bafana, adding international experience to his football résumé.
For Flamingo FC, securing a player with Sithebe’s professional background could be a significant boost. His experience in top-flight football may help strengthen the team, while his understanding of the demands of competitive football could prove valuable to younger teammates.
Although the move represents a step down in league status, it also gives Sithebe an opportunity to return to regular action and demonstrate that he still has something to offer on the pitch. Players can experience difficult periods in their careers for various reasons, and finding the right environment can be an important part of rebuilding momentum.
The challenge now will be to settle into his new surroundings, regain consistency and help Flamingo FC achieve its objectives in the regional competition.
Sithebe’s move highlights how quickly circumstances can change in professional football. Having played for major clubs and represented his country, he now faces a fresh test as he attempts to make the most of this opportunity.
