Useless Fools — Fantana to Sue NPP Communicator Over comment Ablakwa is Giving her Stolen money
Ghanaian musician Fantana has threatened to take legal action against Benjamin Gyewu-Appiah, a member of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) National Communications Team, following allegations that Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa gave her money allegedly taken from state funds.
The controversy emerged after Gyewu-Appiah made the claims during a discussion on Onua FM, where he accused the minister of diverting money reportedly intended to support the evacuation of Ghanaians from South Africa and using it for the musician.
During the radio discussion, the NPP communicator alleged that Fantana had received money he claimed Ablakwa had taken unlawfully, directly linking the musician to the accusations against the minister.
“What pains me is that he has given all the money he took to Fantana. Do you know his girl is Fantana? He has taken all the stolen money to Fantana,” Gyewu-Appiah alleged.
He also called for legal consequences against Ablakwa and his wife over what he described as wrongdoing, further accusing the minister of being a “serious thief.”
Fantana has strongly rejected the allegations and indicated that she intends to pursue legal action against Gyewu-Appiah over the statements made about her on the radio programme.
The musician expressed anger at the NPP communicator, accusing him of making false claims about her on a national media platform and warning that she would not allow the allegations to go unchallenged.
Reacting to the comments, Fantana made her position clear in a strongly worded statement, threatening to sue the politician over what she considers defamatory remarks.
“I’m going to sue you for lying on me!!!!! A bunch of old useless f00ls sitting on the radio spreading lies! God punish you, useless men!” she said.
Her response signals a possible legal dispute over the allegations, with the musician maintaining that the claims linking her to allegedly diverted public funds are unacceptable.
The controversy has also brought attention to the responsibility of political communicators when making accusations against public officials and other individuals, particularly during radio discussions that can reach large audiences.
Allegations involving the misuse of public funds are serious matters that require credible evidence and appropriate investigation, while individuals named in such claims have the right to challenge statements they consider false or damaging to their reputation.
Gyewu-Appiah’s comments were presented as allegations during the radio discussion and do not, on their own, establish that Ablakwa diverted public money or that Fantana received any such funds.
Fantana’s threat of legal action now places the focus on whether she will formally pursue the matter against the NPP communicator over the statements made about her.
