The girl allegedly relayed the story to her family, which was captured on video and widely shared online.
This prompted an investigation by the Gauteng Education Department and the subsequent suspension of the teacher.
Gauteng Education MEC Lebgogang Maile said, “The child with the mother currently are receiving counselling and the forensics are taking the statements, immediately the police will be able to effect an arrest, because the police were waiting for the complainant to effect the arrest and that’s what they are going to do.”
