SAFA Denies Lodging Complaint in Palm Ridge Case, Vows to Cover Legal Costs
The South African Football Association (SAFA) has issued a statement addressing the ongoing Palm Ridge court case, distancing the organisation from the complaint that led to the legal proceedings and outlining its position on the matter.
According to SAFA, the association did not file a complaint with either the South African Police Service (SAPS) or the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, commonly known as the Hawks. It maintains that the individuals who brought the complaint are former members of its National Executive Committee (NEC) and former employees who acted in their personal capacities.
SAFA also highlighted its audit history during the period under investigation, stating that the organisation received unqualified audit opinions throughout that time. The statement appears intended to reinforce its position regarding its financial governance and operations.
Furthermore, the football governing body confirmed that it would cover the legal expenses of its president, Dr Danny Jordaan, and Mr Gronie Hluyo in connection with the case.
SAFA also indicated that it is considering civil action against individuals it believes have damaged the organisation’s reputation.
The statement comes as the Palm Ridge court proceedings continue to attract attention within South African football. However, SAFA’s assertions represent the organisation’s position, and any allegations before the court remain subject to the legal process.
The case continues to place scrutiny on the association’s leadership and governance.
