President Ruto’s Next Political Move in Ukambani Region as MP Mwenge Mutuse Confirms This

President William Ruto is set to turn his attention to the Ukambani region as he prepares for a four-day tour covering Machakos, Makueni and Kitui counties, with development projects and political engagements expected to feature prominently.

The planned visit comes as the President’s allies continue seeking to expand the ruling United Democratic Alliance’s (UDA) influence in a region where Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has maintained a significant political presence.

Kibwezi West Member of Parliament Mwenge Mutuse is among the leaders who have been advocating for closer cooperation between Ukambani and Ruto’s administration. Mutuse has repeatedly urged residents to consider supporting the government, arguing that working with the national leadership could improve the region’s access to development opportunities.

The legislator has also challenged Kalonzo to consider working with Ruto ahead of the 2027 General Election, adding to the ongoing political debate over alliances and the direction of the opposition.

According to the announced programme, the President’s tour is scheduled to begin on Saturday, October 24, and will include visits to key development projects across the three counties.

In Machakos, Ruto is expected to inspect a sports academy and commission water projects. His programme in Makueni includes road launches and the issuance of title deeds, while Kitui is also expected to benefit from infrastructure and other government initiatives.

The tour provides the President with an opportunity to explain his administration’s development agenda directly to residents while engaging local leaders on issues affecting the region.

Politically, the visit comes at a time when leaders are positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 elections. Ruto’s allies are seeking to increase support for his administration, while opposition figures continue defending their political bases.

Mutuse’s remarks have therefore added to the discussion about whether Ukambani leaders should maintain their traditional political alliances or explore new partnerships with the government.

As the tour approaches, attention will focus on the projects announced, the messages delivered by local leaders and how residents respond to the President’s engagements.

Although development remains a central theme of the visit, its political significance is also likely to attract attention as Kenya moves closer to the next general election.
