Northern Ashanti Boss Breaks Silence After Officials Allegedly Reveal Mine Lease Has Gone to Another

The General Manager of Northern Ashanti Mines, Kenneth Allen, has disclosed that officials of the Minerals Commission informed him that the company’s mining concession at Konongo in the Ashanti Region had allegedly been transferred to another consortium.

Speaking on Citi Prime News, Mr Allen said he became aware of the reported development during a visit by a Minerals Commission delegation to the mine on Wednesday, October 21, 2026.

He explained that the officials first inspected the facility before meeting management in the boardroom.

During the meeting, they asked whether he knew that the mining lease had reportedly been granted to another consortium.

Mr Allen said he informed the delegation that he had no knowledge of any agreement or arrangement to transfer the lease to another group.

The disclosure comes amid reports that military and police personnel took control of the mine’s premises on Thursday, October 22, and instructed workers to leave the facility.

According to Mr Allen, the security personnel arrived while management was conducting its routine production meeting.

He said they informed those present that they were acting on instructions from higher authorities and had been directed to ensure that workers vacated the site.

The reported operation affected approximately 430 people, including 240 permanent employees and contractors, he disclosed.

However, the identity of the consortium allegedly granted the mining lease and the circumstances surrounding the reported transfer remain unclear.

It is also uncertain whether the development is linked to the ongoing controversy surrounding mining interests associated with Ghanaian entrepreneur Angela List and reports of an attempted takeover of Adamus Resources, another company linked to her.
