GH¢209.7m Lost to Cybercrime: Ghana Launches Stronger Online Safety Drive

The Cyber Security Authority (CSA) has stepped up its efforts to encourage safe online practices as part of National Cybersecurity Awareness Month 2026. The intensified campaign comes against the backdrop of significant financial losses, with GH¢209.7 million reported as lost to cybersecurity incidents between January and September 2026.

The CSA’s renewed push for digital safety awareness reflects growing concerns over the rising threat of cybercrime in Ghana. By engaging the public and stakeholders throughout the awareness month, the Authority aims to equip citizens with the knowledge and tools needed to protect themselves in an increasingly digital environment.

The reported losses of GH¢209.7 million over the nine-month period underscore the serious economic impact of cyber incidents on individuals, businesses, and the broader economy. These figures highlight the urgent need for heightened vigilance and stronger cybersecurity measures across all sectors.

National Cybersecurity Awareness Month serves as a platform for the CSA to educate the public about common cyber threats, promote best practices for online safety, and encourage responsible digital behavior. The Authority’s engagement efforts are designed to reach a wide audience, from individual internet users to organizations that handle sensitive data.

As cyber threats continue to evolve, the CSA’s campaign emphasizes the importance of collective responsibility in safeguarding Ghana’s digital landscape. The Authority encourages the public to remain alert, adopt safe online habits, and report any suspected cyber incidents to the appropriate authorities. Through sustained awareness and education, the CSA hopes to reduce the frequency and impact of cyber incidents and build a more resilient digital ecosystem for all Ghanaians.
