UCL: Man Utd in injury crisis ahead of Como clash
According to a report by Daily Post on Wednesday October 21, 2026, Manchester United manager Michael Carrick is facing a selection headache ahead of his side’s UEFA Champions League clash against Como on Wednesday after several players missed the team’s final training session.
Lisandro Martinez, Kobbie Mainoo, Luke Shaw, Ayden Heaven and Marcus Rashford were all absent from training before the squad travelled to Italy, raising doubts about their availability for the encounter.
The potential absences come at a difficult time for United, who are already without Patrick Dorgu, Benjamin Sesko and Manuel Ugarte because of longer-term injuries.
Carrick will also be unable to call upon defender Leny Yoro, who is suspended after receiving a straight red card during United’s Champions League defeat to Atletico Madrid last week.
The growing list of unavailable players could force the United manager to make significant changes to his starting line-up as he looks to secure a positive result against Como.
Speaking to the media ahead of the match, Carrick described the injury situation as a “mixed bag”, indicating that the availability of several players remained uncertain.
However, the manager offered a more encouraging update on Martinez, suggesting that the defender was more likely to be available for Sunday’s Premier League meeting with Bournemouth.
Martinez’s potential absence against Como would be another concern for United, particularly with Yoro already ruled out through suspension.
The situation could leave Carrick with limited defensive options, depending on the fitness of Shaw and Heaven, who also missed the final training session.
Mainoo’s possible absence could affect United’s midfield options, while Rashford’s fitness would be another consideration when the manager finalises his attacking line-up.
Sesko’s continued absence is also a setback, as United will have to manage their attacking resources without the striker.
Despite the injury concerns, Carrick will be hoping that some of the players who missed training can recover in time to feature against Como.
United head into the fixture needing a strong performance after their 2-0 defeat to Atletico Madrid, a match in which Yoro’s dismissal further complicated their task.
The encounter against Como therefore presents Carrick with an important test, not only in terms of the result but also his ability to manage a depleted squad.
