Today’s Headlines: Stop making life difficult for Nigerians with unrealistic policies, projects – Makinde to Tinubu; Asari, Sultan call for deeper ties between north, southern Nigeria

The presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement, APM, Seyi Makinde, has urged the President Bola Tinubu-led Federal Government to stop complicating the lives of Nigerians with what he described as “unrealistic policies and projects”.

Makinde who is the Governor of Oyo State, stated this during the MakindeDaura 2027 Presidency South-South Town hall meeting held in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

According to him, the Federal Government has been known for undertaking huge projects and abandoning them along the way, thereby worsening the living conditions of Nigerians.

The Amayanabo of Elem Kalabari kingdom, in Rivers State, Alhaji Asari Dokubo, has called for a deeper tie between northern Nigeria and the south-south region of the country.

Asari made the call during a royal visit to the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Mohammed Saad Abubakar, in his palace in Sokoto State on Tuesday.

He expressed gratitude to the sultan for the warm reception, adding that the visit was to promote national unity and deepen existing cordial relationships between traditional institutions in southern and northern Nigeria.

“Nigeria remains one and indivisible country for the good of our own people and for the welfare of all of us as a people.

“I feel that the sultan is a very amiable person, and our relationship with him over the years has shown that he is humble and he receives everybody as equal.

ABUJA — Six years after the #EndSARS protests, civil society organisations and human rights lawyers have called for stronger police accountability, effective reforms and respect for citizens’ rights, saying allegations of brutality, extortion and impunity continue to undermine public trust in the police.

They also called for the implementation of outstanding recommendations of judicial panels set up after the 2020 protests and safeguards against the political misuse of security agencies ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The stakeholders spoke against the backdrop of the sixth anniversary of the October 20, 2020, protests at the Lekki Toll Gate in Lagos, where protesters were reportedly killed during the demonstrations against police brutality.
