Sarkodie Explains Why He Doesn’t Like His Songs Overmixed

Sarkodie has explained why he prefers his songs not to be heavily mixed, arguing that excessive technical adjustments can take away from the original feel of a record.

The rapper shared his thoughts after an X user posted a clip from an interview with music duo R2Bees on YouTube channel Nandoleaks. In the interview, the duo discussed Sarkodie’s preference for minimal mixing on his songs, referencing hits such as You Go Kill Me and Baby, which featured Mugeez, one half of R2Bees.

Reacting to the clip, Sarkodie said engineers sometimes focus so much on technical perfection that they lose the essence of the music. “Most times engineers mix the feel out of the music when they get technical,” he wrote, adding that sometimes engineers should “just let it be if it doesn’t need much”.

He further stressed the importance of preserving the elements that inspire an artist during the creative process. “What we heard that brought the melody or lyrics out of us shouldn’t get lost after mix,” Sarkodie said, suggesting that the original feeling behind a song should remain intact through production.
