Roc Nation Boss Points to Real Madrid Star’s Rise as Model for South Africa’s Next Big Talents

Roc Nation Sports International president Michael Yormark believes South African teenagers Emile Witbooi, Neo Bohloko and Siyabonga Mabena have the potential to follow the same path as Yan Diomande, the Ivory Coast winger who recently completed a high-profile move to Real Madrid.

Speaking in Cape Town, Yormark held up Diomande’s rapid rise as clear evidence that the agency’s approach works. The Ivorian was identified in Africa, surrounded by professional support, and guided toward the highest level of the game. Diomande’s transfer from RB Leipzig to the Spanish giants has been widely regarded as one of the most significant moves involving an African player in recent years.

“Yan Diomande is proof of concept,” Yormark said. “We recruited a player in Africa, put a professional management team around him, and guided him to reach his dreams.”

The three South African players are already on Roc Nation’s books and form part of the agency’s growing focus on African talent. Witbooi, currently at Cape Town City, has drawn attention for his performances at youth international level and has secured a notable commercial partnership. Bohloko, a Kaizer Chiefs academy product, recently committed his future to the club with a new long-term contract. Mabena continues his development at Mamelodi Sundowns, where he is regarded as one of the more promising young attackers in the country.

Yormark’s comments underline Roc Nation’s strategy of identifying talented players early on the continent, providing structured management, and supporting their progression toward European opportunities. The agency has expanded its presence in South Africa and other African markets in recent seasons, signing several highly rated teenagers across different age groups.

Diomande’s journey from relatively modest beginnings to a major European club has become a reference point for the organisation. Yormark presented it as a practical model rather than a distant aspiration, suggesting that the same combination of recruitment, professional support and clear career planning can be applied to the South African trio.

Whether Witbooi, Bohloko or Mabena can eventually reach a similar level remains to be seen. For now, the agency’s leadership has publicly set a high benchmark and expressed confidence that the pathway is already in place. The focus remains on steady development, professional guidance and creating the conditions for these young players to maximise their potential on and off the field.
