Rachel Ruto’s Father Samuel Kimeto Makes Rare Public Appearance at Mashujaa Day

First Lady Rachel Ruto’s father, Samuel Kirwa Kimeto, attracted attention after making a rare public appearance during Kenya’s 63rd Mashujaa Day celebrations at Kipchoge Keino Stadium in Eldoret.

Kimeto was among the notable guests who attended the national event on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, which brought together leaders, dignitaries and thousands of Kenyans to celebrate the country’s heroes.

According to footage from the celebrations, Kimeto arrived in a grey Toyota Land Cruiser TXL. He stepped out of the vehicle wearing a black cowboy hat, a black suit, a white shirt and a red tie. He also carried a walking stick.

His arrival drew attention as security personnel appeared to check the occupants of the vehicle before he was escorted towards the stadium seating area. His presence was announced over the public address system, and he was accompanied by two women.

Kimeto was also captured navigating the stadium stairs as he made his way to his designated seat.

His appearance offered a rare public glimpse of the First Lady’s father, who is not frequently seen at major public events.

The Mashujaa Day celebrations were presided over by President William Ruto, alongside Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and Deputy President Kithure Kindiki. The event was jointly hosted by Uasin Gishu, Nandi and Elgeyo Marakwet counties.

The ceremony featured a range of entertainment, including performances by gospel musician Emmy Kosgei, Pastor Joel Kimetto and Marakwet Daughter. Traditional Kalenjin music and dance also entertained the gathering, while military personnel staged a ceremonial parade accompanied by aircraft displays.

Kimeto’s appearance became one of the notable moments from the national celebrations, which combined tributes to Kenya’s heroes with cultural performances and displays of national pride.
