Oburu Oginga discharged from hospital
Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Oburu OgingaOrange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Oburu Oginga has been discharged from Nairobi Hospital.
Oburu, who was reportedly admitted on October 4, 2026, was discharged on October 19, ending a hospital stay that attracted public attention amid speculation about his health.
The Siaya Senator was last seen in public on October 15, when photographs of him celebrating his 83rd birthday in hospital were shared, coinciding with the first anniversary of the death of his younger brother, former Prime Minister Raila Amolo Odinga.
The occasion carried a mix of celebration and grief for the veteran politician, who used the day to reflect on his birthday and the enduring bond he shared with Raila.
“Today, October 15th, is far more than just a date on the calendar; it is a sacred intersection of life and eternity,” Oburu posted.
“To have been born on this day and for you to have departed on this same date is a divine testament to the invisible thread that binds our souls,” he said.
Oburu added that Raila’s death had not diminished their connection, describing their bond as one that transcended physical presence.
“As I mark the anniversary of my birth, I carry your spirit within mine, bound by a shared journey that transcends time and an eternal connection that death has no power to break,” he added.
His hospitalisation had fuelled speculation on social media, with questions about his condition emerging ahead of the high-profile memorial events marking Raila’s first death anniversary.
The ODM leader had previously dismissed reports that he was seriously ill following an earlier hospital visit in Nairobi, which he described as a routine medical check-up.
At the time, Oburu said he was resting at his Nairobi residence and rejected claims circulating online about the severity of his condition and alleged restrictions on visitors.
Seeking to reassure supporters, he pledged to communicate openly should his health deteriorate.
“The day I am truly sick, I will inform you all, for I am a very transparent person,” he said.
His discharge comes at a critical moment for ODM, which he took over following Raila’s death, as the party navigates its leadership transition and political direction ahead of the 2027 General Election.
