Obi: “You Are Fake; When You Were A Governor, You Didn’t Go To The IDP Camp To Do Your Birthday-Wike

According to a report by Daily Post on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has criticised the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, questioning the sincerity of his claims to humility.

Wike accused the former Anambra State governor of portraying a false image of modesty through public activities, including celebrating birthdays at Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps and purchasing roasted corn from roadside vendors.

The FCT minister made the remarks on Tuesday during an engagement with youths from Rivers State as political activities gathered momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to Wike, Obi’s actions appeared to be politically motivated and aimed at presenting him as a humble person to gain public sympathy and support ahead of the presidential election.

He argued that Obi did not engage in similar activities while serving as governor of Anambra State, questioning why the former governor had adopted such practices now that he was seeking the presidency.

Wike said, “Make him the president of social media so that he can be going to IDP camps, so that he will be buying corn on the road then you will say oh! Very humble. Humble where?

“It’s fake. Who are you going to deceive? When you were a governor, you didn’t go to the IDP camp to do your birthday, you didn’t go to buy fuel by yourself, all of a sudden, just because you want to be president you are now going. Who are you going to deceive?”

The minister’s comments centred on what he described as a difference between Obi’s conduct during his time as governor and his present public engagements as a presidential hopeful.

Wike suggested that Obi’s visits to IDP camps and interactions with roadside traders should not automatically be interpreted as evidence of humility, insisting that such actions were intended to influence public perception.
