2027:Some APC Govs Are Campaigning In A Manner That Suggests “Vote for Me” If You Don’t Want to Vote
According to a report by Arise News on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, growing political activities ahead of Nigeria’s upcoming elections have exposed tensions between state governors’ political ambitions and broader presidential strategies, particularly regarding cross-party alliances and support for presidential candidates.
Oby Ndukwe, National President of the Citizens Quest for Truth Initiative, highlighted a growing pattern in which some governors seek to protect their political interests independently of the president’s electoral fortunes.
Ndukwe explained that these separate campaign strategies are largely motivated by personal and regional interests rather than loyalty to the ruling party.
Speaking about how some APC governors approach elections in areas where presidential support may be uncertain, she said certain governors appear to be encouraging voters to support them without necessarily voting for the president.
She explained that in states where the president may not enjoy widespread support, some governors adopt campaign messages that allow voters to choose them while deciding independently who to support in the presidential election.
According to Ndukwe, the strategy is reflected in campaign slogans that encourage voters to elect a particular governor while giving them the freedom to vote for any candidate of their choice in the presidential race.
She criticised the approach, describing it as a selfish political tactic driven by individual interests rather than a commitment to party unity.
