Matiangi Rejects Gachagua’s Wamunyoro Meeting That Picked 3 Leaders as Possible Flagbearer, Says This
Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has publicly rejected the outcome of the recent Wamunyoro meeting hosted by Rigathi Gachagua and Edwin Sifuna.
Speaking during an evening rally in Nakuru alongside Martha Karua and Ndindi Nyoro, the former minister has firmly dismissed allegations that three leaders have been picked as the primary options for the opposition presidential flagbearer race.
Addressing a massive crowd of supporters, Matiang’i has insisted that no boardroom selection or private caucus will dictate who leads the opposition forces into the upcoming national elections.
He has made it clear that any decision regarding a joint presidential candidate must remain transparent, democratic, and inclusive of all key principals within the united coalition.
Furthermore, he has emphasized that ordinary citizens have to decide the team’s leadership through open participation rather than relying on exclusive political arrangements.
Matiang’i has warned that excluding prominent coalition partners risks creating unnecessary division within the reformist agenda.
He has pointed out that building a formidable political vehicle requires genuine consultation and mutual respect among all participating regional blocks.
According to the former CS, the opposition’s principal focus has to center on national unity and practical economic reforms that address public suffering, rather than engaging in early battles over individual endorsements.
His strong stance in Nakuru has re-energized his supporters and re-asserted his position as a crucial decision-maker within the opposition movement.
By pushing back against closed-door caucuses, Matiang’i has signaled that any serious political alliance has to earn the direct trust of the electorate.
His public rejection has set the stage for deeper consultations among top opposition leaders across the country.
