Khvicha Kvaratskhelia responds to PSG injury blow as season ended early

According to a report by Evening Standard on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, Paris Saint-Germain forward Khvicha Kvaratskhelia has expressed his disappointment after suffering a serious knee injury that is expected to rule him out for the remainder of the season.

The Georgian winger sustained a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee during PSG’s 4-2 Champions League victory over Barcelona, dealing a significant blow to the French club.

Since joining PSG from Napoli in January 2025, the 25-year-old has become an influential member of Luis Enrique’s squad, thanks to his attacking quality, creativity and ability to trouble defenders.

Following medical examinations, PSG confirmed that Kvaratskhelia would undergo surgery in the coming days to address the injury.

The forward took to social media to express his frustration, admitting that he was finding it difficult to understand why the setback had happened, particularly after preparing carefully for such an important encounter.

“Why me? I was not ready for this,” Kvaratskhelia wrote.

He explained that he had entered the match feeling better prepared than ever, making the sudden injury even harder to accept. The winger also spoke about his faith, revealing that he regularly prayed for protection before stepping onto the pitch.

“Before every match I play, I ask God to leave the field unscathed, but in vain,” he added.

Despite the disappointment, Kvaratskhelia remained determined to overcome the setback and promised supporters that he would work hard throughout his rehabilitation to return in better condition.

“I know I have to come back stronger for my people who always support me, I won’t let you down, I promise I won’t waste a second. Thank you all for your support, see you soon,” he said.

The injury occurred shortly before the hour mark against Barcelona when Kvaratskhelia twisted his knee while chasing Xavi Espart. He was unable to put weight on his right leg and needed assistance to leave the field.

His absence is expected to create a major challenge for PSG as they pursue success in domestic competitions and Europe. The French champions have started their Champions League title defence impressively, winning their opening three matches, but losing one of their key attacking players could affect their plans.

Kvaratskhelia has scored 29 goals in 91 appearances for PSG since arriving from Napoli in a deal reportedly worth around £59 million. His pace, dribbling skills and attacking intelligence have made him a valuable part of Enrique’s forward line.

The PSG manager must now explore alternative attacking options while the Georgian international begins his recovery.

Kvaratskhelia was also among three PSG players who suffered injuries during the Barcelona encounter. Ousmane Dembele and Marquinhos picked up problems of their own, although their injuries were reportedly less severe, with both expected to miss several weeks rather than the remainder of the campaign.

Reflecting on the injury concerns after the match, Enrique acknowledged that the setbacks had taken away some of the satisfaction from his side’s impressive victory.

“I am not a doctor. I only know that all three are injured. That is the worst thing about today’s match,” the PSG manager said.
