Kaizer Motaung Jr. Attacked by Former Player
Kaizer Chiefs sporting director Kaizer Motaung Jr. has come under criticism from former Kaizer Chiefs player and football analyst Junior Khanye, who has questioned his leadership abilities and the decisions he has made at the club. Khanye believes that Motaung Jr. needs to improve his approach to management and consider seeking advice from people with experience in identifying and recruiting players.
Speaking on iDiski TV, Khanye expressed concerns about the way Motaung Jr. handles opinions and makes important decisions at Kaizer Chiefs. He suggested that the club’s sporting director must be willing to listen to different perspectives if he wants to help the Soweto giants return to their former glory.
Khanye also compared Motaung Jr.’s approach with that of Bobby Motaung, whom he praised for being actively involved in the club’s affairs and willing to listen to others.
Recalling his experience at Kaizer Chiefs, Khanye explained that Bobby Motaung was approachable and open to hearing different opinions. According to him, this quality helped create an environment where people could share their thoughts and contribute to discussions about the club.
However, Khanye questioned whether Motaung Jr. demonstrates the same willingness to listen to advice from others. He raised concerns about the sporting director’s leadership style and suggested that his approach could be affecting the quality of decisions being made at the club.
Khanye also referred to the club’s unsuccessful pursuit of former midfielder Andile Jali, arguing that the situation raised questions about Motaung Jr.’s judgement. He believes that certain decisions surrounding player recruitment and squad management deserve closer examination.
The former player further criticised some of the club’s recent decisions involving players, particularly the reported departure of Thabo Cele and the retention of Mthethwa. Khanye questioned why Cele was released while Mthethwa remained at the club, suggesting that the decision did not make sense to him.
His comments reflect broader concerns about the direction of Kaizer Chiefs as the club continues its efforts to build a competitive squad capable of challenging for major honours. Supporters have high expectations, and decisions involving player recruitment, retention and departures often attract significant attention.
Khanye believes Motaung Jr. should be humble enough to recognise areas where he needs assistance. He advised the sporting director to bring in someone with strong player-identification skills who could help the club make better recruitment decisions.
He also stressed that Kaizer Chiefs must recognise the importance of their supporters, arguing that fans should have an opportunity to express their concerns about the club’s direction.
According to Khanye, ignoring supporters’ dissatisfaction could create further tension between the club’s management and its loyal fanbase. He warned that if fans remain unhappy with the decisions being made, problems could arise within the club.
Ultimately, Khanye’s criticism highlights the pressure on Kaizer Chiefs’ leadership to make decisions that satisfy supporters while improving the team’s performances. His comments underline the importance of listening to advice, making informed recruitment choices and maintaining a strong relationship with the club’s fanbase.
