During an interview with Emelia Brobbey, the actress explained that her son drowned at Sakumono Beach after completing his Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE). According to her, the boy had gone to the beach with some of his friends when the unfortunate incident occurred.

Xandy recalled that September 17 was a particularly significant date because it marked her ex-husband’s birthday and the day her son was laid to rest.

She disclosed that she was at home when she received the news of her son’s death. However, she did not attend the funeral because she was more focused on celebrating her husband’s special day at the time.

The actress admitted that her deep affection for her former husband influenced her decision, leaving her mother to attend the burial on her behalf.

Xandy further explained that her son’s body was not recovered immediately after he drowned. She said traditional rites were performed at the seaside, and she was present when the rituals took place. The body was eventually washed ashore three days after the incident.

She also clarified why she did not accompany her son’s body to the burial. According to her, the customs of her community classify certain tragic deaths as “Atofo Wuɔ,” a term used in Akan to describe an unnatural or unfortunate death.

Her account has brought attention to the painful circumstances surrounding her son’s death and the decisions she made during that difficult period of her life.
