A second-year student of Obuasi Senior High Technical School has recounted an alleged sexual assault by the school’s headmaster, Zakaria Abdulai, claiming that her attempts to report the incident did not result in justice.

According to a report by GhanaWeb on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, the student, identified only as Victim A, shared her account in an investigative documentary by journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni. She alleged that the incident occurred on July 25, 2026, after the headmaster invited her to his bungalow to run an errand.

The student said she found Abdulai wearing a singlet and boxer shorts when she arrived. According to her account, he asked her to sit down, leaving her frightened and uncertain about whether she should remain or leave.

She alleged that the headmaster pulled her onto a sofa, forced her hand onto his body and expressed his desire to have sex with her. She said she resisted, but he overpowered her, removed her clothing and raped her. She further alleged that he dragged her into his bedroom, where another assault occurred.

According to the student, Abdulai subsequently gave her GH¢100 and warned her against disclosing what had happened, threatening consequences if she spoke about the incident.

She said she accepted the money because she feared for her safety. After returning to the dormitory, she hid the cash inside her Bible and cried. Her friends reportedly noticed her distress, prompting her to explain what she claimed had happened.

The student said the matter was initially reported by her house prefect to a housemistress, who then referred the complaint to the senior housemistress. However, she alleged that the complaint was not handled appropriately.

She also claimed that another housemistress advised her and other students not to disclose the matter to anyone.

JoyNews, which promoted the investigative documentary, reported that the student did not obtain justice despite attempting to report the alleged assault to the appropriate authorities.

Her account has added to the allegations surrounding Abdulai, whose case has attracted public attention and calls for a thorough investigation into claims of misconduct at Obuasi SHTS.

The allegations have also raised concerns about the procedures schools follow when students report sexual abuse, particularly when the complaints involve senior staff members. The case highlights the importance of providing safe reporting channels and ensuring that complaints are handled impartially.

However, the claims presented in the documentary remain allegations and have not been tested in court. A thorough investigation is necessary to establish the facts and determine whether any criminal or disciplinary action is warranted.
