Gbande Mocks NPP – My President Didn’t Make A Foreigner Finance Minister
The Deputy General Secretary of the NDC, Mustapha Gbande, has thrown a big shade at the NPP while announcing his plan to contest again for his position.
Speaking as he declared his re-election bid as Deputy General Secretary, Gbande said he is proud to serve under a president who did not appoint a foreigner as finance minister.
It was a direct jab at the NPP’s former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta.
For years, the NDC has attacked Ken Ofori-Atta over his handling of the economy. Mustapha Gbande has been one of his biggest critics. He has in the past said Ofori-Atta collapsed the economy, caused the banking sector clean-up that destroyed jobs, and forced pensioners onto the streets.
Gbande has even vowed that Ken Ofori-Atta will face justice even in death if he refuses to return to Ghana to answer corruption allegations.
Now, with his new comment about a “foreigner” as finance minister, Gbande is reminding Ghanaians of what the NDC sees as the NPP’s biggest failure — putting the economy in the hands of one man who they claim acted more like an outsider than a Ghanaian.
Gbande said under President John Dramani Mahama, things are different. He said he is confident in the current leadership and that is why he wants to continue as Deputy General Secretary to help the NDC deliver.
According to him, even in its worst state, the NDC will still do better than the NPP.
His declaration comes as the NDC prepares for its internal elections, and many party officials are starting to announce their intentions.
For Gbande, the message is simple: The NDC has a president he can trust, and the NPP had a finance minister Ghanaians could not trust.
