Ferdinand Reveals What Stands Out About Como As Supercomputer Makes Major Man Utd Match Prediction

According to a report by Manchester Evening News on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has explained why Como have caught his attention ahead of the Red Devils’ Champions League meeting with the Italian side, while an Opta supercomputer has predicted a difficult outing for Michael Carrick’s team.

Manchester United will return to European action on Wednesday following their 1-1 draw against Leeds United in the Premier League on Sunday.

Carrick’s side made an impressive start to their Champions League campaign in September, securing a convincing 4-0 victory over Sabah at Old Trafford. However, they failed to build on that result, suffering a 2-0 defeat away to Atletico Madrid in their subsequent European fixture.

The Red Devils travelled to Italy after completing a training session at Carrington on Tuesday morning. They are set to face Como at the Giuseppe Sinigaglia Stadium, with kick-off scheduled for 5:45pm UK time.

Como have enjoyed an encouraging season under head coach Cesc Fabregas. The Italian side currently sit fifth in Serie A and have recorded three victories in their last five league matches.

Fabregas’ team secured qualification for this season’s Champions League after finishing fourth in Italy’s top flight last season, establishing themselves as a side capable of challenging stronger opponents.

Speaking on his podcast, Ferdinand revealed that he has been particularly impressed by Como’s style of play.

“I’m looking forward to seeing how Como play football,” Ferdinand said on Rio Ferdinand Presents.

The former United defender also praised the team’s confidence in possession, noting that their approach appears to challenge opponents to press them aggressively.

“Have you seen some of their clips, mate? Wow. They’re playing soccer. They’re playing soccer. They’re saying, ‘Press us. Press us if you dare,’” he explained.

Meanwhile, Opta Analyst has published its predictions for the Champions League fixture after conducting 10,000 simulations of the meeting between Como and Manchester United.

According to the supercomputer, Como have a 41.7 per cent chance of winning at home, making the Italian side favourites to claim victory on Wednesday.

Manchester United have been given a 33.8 per cent probability of securing all three points under Carrick, suggesting the visitors could face a difficult challenge.

The remaining 24.5 per cent probability has been assigned to a draw, leaving Como with the strongest statistical chance of winning the encounter.
