YEA Raises Monthly Allowances to GH¢800, Unveils Four New Employment Programmes for 2027
The Chief Executive Officer of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), Malik Basintale, has announced an increase in the monthly allowances paid to beneficiaries, raising the amount from GH¢500 to GH¢800. He also disclosed that the agency will roll out four new employment programmes in 2027.
Basintale made these announcements while speaking at the Government Accountability Series held at Jubilee House on Wednesday, October 21. He used the platform to highlight the agency’s progress and outline its plans for the future.
According to the CEO, the YEA had recorded a total of 100,628 beneficiaries as of September 30. He further revealed that the agency has secured agreements with security agencies aimed at absorbing at least 60 percent of its beneficiaries into permanent employment, a move expected to provide lasting job security for a significant portion of the youth engaged under the scheme.
Despite these positive developments, Basintale was candid about the financial difficulties facing the agency. He disclosed that the YEA had not received any allocation from the District Assemblies Common Fund, describing this as a major funding challenge that affects the agency’s operations.
The announcement of the allowance increase and the new programmes is expected to bring relief to current and prospective beneficiaries, many of whom rely on the stipends to support themselves and their families. The planned absorption of beneficiaries into permanent roles with security agencies also signals a shift toward more sustainable employment outcomes.
The Government Accountability Series serves as a forum for state agencies to report on their performance and account to the public. Basintale’s presentation offered both an update on the YEA’s achievements and a frank acknowledgment of the obstacles it faces, particularly regarding funding.
