Bayern Munich Receive Major Boost Ahead of Arsenal Champions League Clash

According to a report by London Evening Standard on Wednesday October 21, 2026, Bayern Munich have received a significant boost ahead of their Champions League meeting with Arsenal, with head coach Vincent Kompany expected to return to the touchline following illness.

The Belgian manager missed Tuesday’s final training session and pre-match press conference after suffering a viral infection. His absence raised questions about whether he would oversee Wednesday evening’s European encounter.

However, Kompany participated in Bayern’s activation session at Säbener Straße on Wednesday morning before travelling with the squad to their hotel in Unterschleißheim, suggesting his recovery is progressing.

According to Get German Football News, the Bayern boss is now expected to be available for the clash. Reports from Kicker, Sport Bild and Sky Germany also confirmed his return.

Sky Germany reportedly filmed Kompany arriving at the team hotel, providing further evidence that he has resumed preparations. Bayern have not officially confirmed whether he will manage from the touchline.

Assistant coach Aaron Danks previously explained that Kompany was resting at home, admitting uncertainty about his availability. The manager had also experienced discomfort affecting his legs and hips.

His condition was noticeable during Saturday’s 6-1 Bundesliga victory over RB Leipzig, when he spent considerable time seated. Nevertheless, Wednesday’s developments indicate sufficient improvement for him to rejoin preparations.

Despite the encouraging news, Bayern will remain without several important players against Arsenal. Joshua Kimmich is unavailable following a bereavement, while winger Michael Olise must serve a suspension.

Jamal Musiala also remains sidelined through injury, leaving Kompany without another influential midfielder for the crucial European fixture.

Meanwhile, goalkeeper Manuel Neuer is expected to return after recovering from the foot problem that ruled him out of Bayern’s previous two matches, providing another welcome boost.

Bayern will welcome Arsenal to the Allianz Arena for their Champions League league-phase encounter, with kick-off scheduled for 21:00 Central European Summer Time.

Kompany’s expected return strengthens Bayern’s preparations for the meeting against the Premier League side. Although official confirmation remains outstanding, his participation and arrival at the hotel suggest he should be available.

Arsenal will therefore likely face Bayern with their head coach back in charge, adding another important development ahead of Wednesday’s highly anticipated European showdown.
