Bayern Munich Receive Double Boost Ahead of Arsenal Clash as Neuer Returns to Training

Bayern Munich may have Joshua Kimmich and Manuel Neuer at their disposal for Wednesday’s Champions League clash with Arsenal, after the midfielder sat out the club’s final training session for personal reasons.

A report by the Evening Standard on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, stated that Kimmich was not present at training before the match at the Allianz Arena. Reports from Germany, though, suggest the midfielder is not injured and is set to feature against Mikel Arteta’s team.

His potential comeback would be a lift for Bayern, who will be missing Michael Olise through suspension. The France international was dismissed during Bayern’s 3-3 draw with Viking in their previous Champions League league-phase fixture.

Olise was shown a second yellow card for throwing the ball at a Viking player. He had been booked earlier for pulling an opponent’s shirt. Bayern manager Vincent Kompany criticised the sending-off, calling it a costly error that would leave the team without a key attacking player against Arsenal.

Captain Manuel Neuer, meanwhile, is expected to return to the starting lineup after participating in Tuesday’s training session.

The goalkeeper was absent from Bayern’s 6-1 victory over RB Leipzig at the weekend due to a persistent foot issue. His return to training indicates he could be fit to face Arsenal.

Bayern, however, are still expected to be without Jamal Musiala. The attacking midfielder did not train on Tuesday and has been sidelined since tearing a muscle fibre in his right thigh while warming up for a Nations League match against the Netherlands last month.

Musiala subsequently pulled out of international duty and has been continuing his recovery, which makes him unlikely to play against Arsenal.

Arsenal travel to Germany after a 1-0 Premier League win over Nottingham Forest at the weekend. Arteta’s side have also won their first two Champions League league-phase matches, against Napoli and Lille.

Although Kimmich and Neuer could strengthen Bayern’s squad, Olise’s suspension and Musiala’s anticipated absence remain worries for Kompany going into Wednesday’s match.
