124,552 in Excess Salary Payments Recovered from 23 Immigration Officers — Muntaka Mubarak
The Minister of the Interior, Muntaka Mubarak, has disclosed that an amount of ₵124,552 in excess salary payments has been recovered from 23 officers of the Ghana Immigration Service. The recovery follows an audit exercise that uncovered irregularities in the payment of salaries to the affected personnel.
According to the Minister, the overpayments were identified during a review of payroll records, and the officers involved have since refunded the excess amounts to the state. The recovery forms part of broader efforts by the Ministry to strengthen accountability and ensure value for money in the management of public funds.
Muntaka Mubarak emphasized that the government is committed to addressing payroll irregularities across agencies under the Ministry of the Interior. He noted that such audits will be sustained to prevent financial leakages and deter misconduct within the security services.
The disclosure has been welcomed as a step toward transparency, though some observers have called for stiffer sanctions against officers found culpable in such cases. Questions have also been raised about how the overpayments occurred in the first place and whether internal controls within the Immigration Service need to be tightened.
