Asiedu Nketiah urges calm over late Ahafo Ano South-West DCE’s replacement
The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has appealed to party members in the Ahafo Ano South-West District to remain calm and avoid internal squabbles over the replacement for the late District Chief Executive (DCE), Abubakar Sedik.
Speaking at Mr Sedik’s final funeral rites in the district capital, Mankranso, Mr Nketiah emphasised that succession disputes would undermine party unity and distract the leadership from preserving the late official’s legacy.
“As we leave here, we do not want any disturbances; we don’t want any internal battles. I will be the DCE, I will be this and that,” Mr Nketiah said, adding, “I appeal to you all to remain calm.”
Mr Sedik passed away on 20 September 2026, following a brief illness.
Described by party leaders as a unifier and dedicated servant, his final funeral rites, held today, drew a wide array of dignitaries, including traditional leaders, high-ranking politicians, technocrats and business executives.
Speaking at the funeral, Mr Nketiah assured party faithful that national and regional executives would consult with President John Dramani Mahama to ensure a smooth transition of leadership in the district.
He noted that swift action was necessary to safeguard ongoing development projects initiated during Mr Sedik’s tenure.
“Together with the Amoakohene and the Regional Chairman, I will brief President Mahama, so that the necessary available suggestions will be made immediately,” he stated.
Mr Nketiah urged sitting DCEs across the region to rally around the bereaved family and support the late DCE’s children to honour his memory and service.
Meanwhile, the Ahafo Ano South-West Constituency Chairman of the party, Chairman Koo Broni, together with cooperative miners, has created a fund for the late DCE’s children, with a seed amount of GHS1.5 million.
This was announced by Johnson Asiedu Nketiah at the funeral ground while delivering the party’s tribute.
