No fresh security service applications in 2027 as government clears backlog – Interior Minister

The government will not open its recruitment portal to new applicants seeking to join Ghana’s security services in 2027, as it moves to clear the existing backlog of qualified candidates awaiting enlistment.

Interior Minister Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak announced the decision on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, during an appearance before Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee. He explained that the directive came from President John Dramani Mahama and is intended to ensure that applicants who successfully completed the recruitment process but could not secure training placements are given priority.

According to the Minister, the portal will remain closed to fresh applications throughout next year while the government works through the current list of qualified candidates. He stated categorically that no new applicants would be admitted in 2027, in line with the President’s instructions.

Muntaka explained that the government would continue selecting eligible applicants from the existing pool until the backlog is exhausted. Those who have already applied, undergone the process, and qualified for training but were unable to secure places due to limited space will be the focus of recruitment efforts.

The Minister added that fresh applications would only be considered after all eligible candidates on the current list have been accommodated. He emphasized that the government would keep drawing from the list until it is fully exhausted before permitting another round of applications.

The decision reflects a deliberate effort to address the frustrations of qualified applicants who have been left in limbo due to capacity constraints at training institutions. By suspending new applications, the government aims to bring fairness and order to a recruitment process that has often been criticized for its lack of transparency and efficiency.
