Milk Farmers Set To Earn Ksh65 Per Litre This Month As Ruto Announces Major Pay Boost In Eldoret

President William Ruto has announced that dairy farmers will earn Ksh65 per litre of milk starting this month. They will also receive a quarterly bonus of Ksh2 per litre as the country continues to deal with a milk shortage.

Speaking during the 63rd Mashujaa Day celebrations at Kipchoge Keino Stadium in Eldoret on Tuesday October 20 the President said recent agricultural reforms are meant to improve earnings for farmers across the country.

He told the crowd that from this month daily farmers will earn Ksh65 per litre with a bonus of Ksh2 paid every quarter.

Ruto noted that the price paid to milk producers had risen from Ksh35 to Ksh60 per litre. He said the latest adjustment is expected to raise their returns even further.

The President also reported that national milk production has grown by one billion litres. He said the increase shows that the reforms introduced by his administration are beginning to bear fruit.

He pointed to the dairy industry in Eldoret where New Kenya Cooperative Creameries plays a key role. The firm collects and processes milk from farmers in the region and supplies it to the market.

The announcement is likely to excite thousands of dairy farmers who have long complained about low prices and delayed payments. Many have also faced rising costs of feeds and animal health services.

The country has been grappling with a milk shortage that has pushed up prices in shops. Farmers hope the new rates will encourage more production and ease the pressure on consumers in the coming months.
