Methu Speaks After Having a Closed-Door Meeting With Gachagua and Sifuna

Nyandarua Senator John Methu has issued a pointed statement after a private meeting with Democracy for the Citizens Party leader Rigathi Gachagua and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna. The talks took place at the Wamunyoro residence on Tuesday October 20.

In a Facebook post accompanied by photographs of the three leaders seated together Methu wrote that the one thing they cannot accept is extra time. He tagged both Gachagua and Sifuna. This confirmed that the closed-door engagement involved only the trio.

The message comes hours after Gachagua hosted a larger Linda Mwananchi delegation at his Nyeri home. He had just returned from the United States. The wider gathering included other opposition figures but the private session remained exclusive.

No detailed communique has been released from the talks. Methu’s public remark is the first direct signal from inside the meeting.

Politically the rejection of extra time is widely read as a firm stance against a presidential runoff in 2027. In Kenya a second round takes place when no candidate secures more than 50 per cent of the vote plus one.

By declaring that they will not accept extra time Methu appears to signal that the three leaders want to build a united front. Such a front would need to deliver a first-round victory against President William Ruto.

The statement also fuels speculation about closer coordination between the party of Gachagua and the Linda Mwananchi movement led by Sifuna. Methu serves as the DCP secretary-general designate and is a key ally of Gachagua. He has positioned himself as a bridge between the Mount Kenya and Western Kenya political bases.

No formal alliance or ticket has been announced. However the carefully worded post shows a shared wish to avoid a long electoral contest and prioritise opposition unity.
