Several prominent Kenyans, including former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, veteran politician William Ole Ntimama, former Chief Justice Willy Mutunga and diplomat Amina Mohammed, have been recognised for their contributions to the country during the 2026 Mashujaa Day celebrations.

The recognition highlights individuals whose work in politics, law, diplomacy and other fields has influenced Kenya’s development and public life over the years.

Raila Odinga, who served as Kenya’s Prime Minister from 2008 to 2013, remained one of the country’s most influential political figures.

He played a significant role in the struggle for multiparty democracy and the constitutional reforms that shaped modern Kenya.

Ole Ntimama, a prominent Maasai leader and former Cabinet minister, was also remembered for his contribution to national politics and the representation of pastoralist communities.

His long political career made him a recognised figure in Kenya’s public affairs.

Former Chief Justice Willy Mutunga was honoured for his contribution to the country’s legal and constitutional development.

He served as Chief Justice from 2011 to 2016, overseeing the Judiciary during an important period following the promulgation of the 2010 Constitution.

The late Senior Counsel Pheroze Nowrojee was among those recognised for his legal work and contribution to human rights advocacy.

His career included involvement in constitutional matters and the defence of civil liberties.

Diplomat Amina Mohammed, who has held several senior govt and international positions, was also among the notable names recognised for her service.

Mashujaa Day is observed every October 20 to celebrate individuals whose efforts have helped shape the country’s history, institutions and communities.
