Manchester United call up two youngsters ahead of Champions League clash
According to a report by Evening Standard on Tuesday October 20, 2026, Manchester United have called up academy defenders Jaydan Kamason and Dan Armer to train with the first team ahead of their Champions League clash against Como on Wednesday evening.
The decision comes as Michael Carrick faces a defensive crisis, with several senior players either injured, suspended or doubtful for the European encounter.
United will be without Leny Yoro, who is suspended following his red card against Atletico Madrid. Benjamin Sesko, Manuel Ugarte, Tom Heaton and Patrick Dorgu are also unavailable due to injuries.
Meanwhile, Marcus Rashford, Lisandro Martinez, Kobbie Mainoo, Luke Shaw and Ayden Heaven missed Tuesday’s training session, raising further concerns over their availability.
Kamason, 19, is a versatile full-back capable of playing on either flank. He impressed during pre-season, scoring once and providing two assists in Manchester United’s 5-0 friendly victory over Rosenborg.
The youngster has previously been included in United’s matchday squad during their Europa League campaign but is yet to make his senior competitive debut. His attacking qualities and versatility could make him a useful option if Carrick needs additional cover at full-back.
Armer, meanwhile, is a Scotland youth international who was included in the senior squad for last week’s match against Atletico Madrid. The 6ft 4in defender is left-footed and could provide valuable depth in central defence.
Some United supporters have compared his running style and physical build to Harry Maguire. With Martinez and Heaven potentially unavailable, Armer could have an opportunity to move closer to making his senior debut.
Carrick previously praised the young defender’s progress, highlighting his hard work and the value of experiencing first-team football.
United will hope to overcome their recent poor run of results against Como, but their defensive absences could make the task more difficult.
