Man Utd Want €100m Superstar as Next Signing
According to a report by Football Transfer on Tuesday October 20, 2026, Manchester United are reportedly preparing to compete with Liverpool for Borussia Dortmund midfielder Felix Nmecha next year, despite investing heavily in their squad during the summer transfer window.
The Red Devils strengthened their midfield by signing Carlos Baleba, Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans. However, the club remain interested in improving their options centrally and have renewed their pursuit of the Germany international ahead of another potential spending spree.
Nmecha, 26, has developed into one of Europe’s impressive midfielders in recent seasons. His performances, including an influential World Cup campaign with Germany, attracted significant Premier League interest during the previous summer transfer window.
However, securing his services will reportedly prove expensive. According to TEAMtalk, Dortmund consider Nmecha an important part of their long-term plans under manager Niko Kovac after the midfielder extended his contract in March.
The report claims that Manchester United and Liverpool are considering moves for the player next year, with United having already initiated contact regarding a possible January transfer. Dortmund could demand approximately €100 million to sanction his departure during the winter window.
Several other Premier League clubs have monitored Nmecha over the past twelve months. Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City, Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly conducted checks, although United and Liverpool currently appear to be leading the race.
Nmecha’s contract reportedly contains an €80 million release clause, but it will only become available next summer. Consequently, interested clubs would need to negotiate a higher fee if they want to secure his signature in January.
The midfielder has scored twice in ten appearances across all competitions this season. His Estimated Transfer Value has reached a career-high €58.5 million following his impressive performances for Dortmund since the beginning of 2026.
Despite United’s reported interest, a move to Old Trafford remains uncertain. Michael Carrick already has Baleba, Santos, Tielemans, Kobbie Mainoo, Mason Mount, Bruno Fernandes and the injured Manuel Ugarte available as midfield options.
United have more urgent priorities ahead of next summer, with strengthening left-back their primary objective. The club also want to recruit a centre-back and potentially a new centre-forward, making an expensive midfield acquisition less likely.
