Linda Mwananchi Honours Rex Masai, Albert Ojwang’ on Mashujaa Day

Linda Mwananchi’s tribute aimed to ensure their names are remembered forever in the nation’s history.

The Linda Mwananchi Movement paid special tribute to Rex Masai and Albert Ojwang’ during the 2026 Mashujaa Day.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, October 20, Linda Mwananchi said that Masai, Ojwang’, and other Kenyans paid the ultimate price in the fight for justice, accountability, and a better Kenya.

The tribute aimed to ensure their names are remembered forever in the nation’s history.

“We remember Rex Masai, Albert Ojwang, David Chege, Eric Shieni, Caroline Shiramba, Denzel Omondi, and the many other young Kenyans whose lives were cut short amid protests against injustice and police brutality.

“They may be gone, but their courage and sacrifice will never be forgotten. Their dreams for a better Kenya must live on through us. Rest in Power, our fallen heroes. You are our Mashujaa,” the statement read.

Former Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President Faith Odhiambo, affiliated with Linda Mwananchi, said Mashujaa Day is meant to honour those who commit their lives to serving and building Kenya.

“Today, we honour the heroes who fought for our freedom and celebrate the courage, unity and patriotism that continue to shape our nation. May we all rise to be heroes in building a stronger, united and prosperous Kenya,” Odhiambo wrote.

On his part, Butula Member of Parliament (MP) Jack Wamboka paid tribute to Kenyans, past and present, who fought for freedom and continue to shape the country’s destiny. He added, “Mwananchi ndio mwenye nchi.”

Elsewhere, The Ukomboi Allliance (TUA) leader Kalonzo Musyoka honoured the Kenyans who lost their livesfduring the June 25, 2024 protests.

We remember the parents whose children never came home, simply because they stood up for what the Constitution promised them. Their courage, sacrifice and love for this nation will never be forgotten. They are, and will forever remain, our heroes.

This year’s celebrations will be held at the Kipchoge Keino Stadium in Eldoret. The Interior Ministry remembered Keino, a police constable, who made headlines when he won Kenya’s first olympic gold medal.
