Good News to Dairy Farmers as Ruto Raises Milk Price and Announces Bonus

Dairy farmers across Kenya are set to earn more from their milk deliveries following an announcement by President William Ruto on new payments and a quarterly bonus beginning October 2026.

The President announced that farmers would receive KSh 65 for every litre of milk delivered, alongside an additional KSh 2 per litre to be paid as a quarterly bonus.

Ruto made the announcement on Tuesday, October 20, during the 63rd Mashujaa Day celebrations held at Kipchoge Keino Stadium in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County.

“Beginning this month, dairy farmers will earn KSh 65 per litre with a bonus of KSh 2 to be paid every quarter,” the President said.

The new rate represents a further increase in the amount paid to milk producers. According to Ruto, the price had previously risen from KSh 35 to KSh 60 per litre, with the latest adjustment expected to improve farmers’ earnings further.

Under the announced arrangement, a farmer delivering 100 litres of milk would receive KSh 6,500 at the stated base rate. If the full quarterly bonus applies to all 100 litres, it would add another KSh 200, bringing the total to KSh 6,700 for that quantity before any deductions.

The announcement comes as Kenya continues to grapple with a milk shortage, placing renewed attention on efforts to strengthen local production and support dairy farmers.

Ruto also reported that national milk production had increased by one billion litres, although he did not provide further details on the period covered by the growth during his remarks.

The President pointed to Eldoret’s dairy sector, where New Kenya Cooperative Creameries (New KCC) plays a significant role in collecting and processing milk supplied by farmers.

The latest announcement forms part of the government’s broader agricultural reform agenda, which Ruto said was intended to improve earnings for farmers across the country.
