Cesc Fabregas Responds To Manchester United Managerial Links

Cesc Fabregas has refused to discuss speculation linking him with the Manchester United job, insisting that commenting on Michael Carrick’s position would be disrespectful to the current manager.

According to a report by Metro on Tuesday, 20 October 2026, the Como head coach was asked about the possibility of replacing Carrick ahead of his side’s Champions League meeting with Manchester United.

Carrick enjoyed an impressive return to Old Trafford last season, guiding United to third place in the Premier League and securing qualification for the Champions League.

However, his team have struggled during the opening weeks of the 2026/27 campaign, winning just two of their first 10 matches across all competitions.

Despite the difficult start, Manchester United’s hierarchy are reportedly prepared to give Carrick more time to improve results. Fabregas has nevertheless emerged among the names linked with the position.

Responding to the speculation, the former Arsenal and Chelsea captain said: “As I’m sure you can understand, I won’t answer that question because I think that’s not a very nice question.

“I don’t think that shows enough respect to a great footballer and manager like Michael Carrick at the helm of a wonderful Manchester United side.”

Fabregas also rejected suggestions that Manchester United were experiencing a crisis, arguing that football clubs must focus on preparing for their next match rather than becoming distracted by poor results.

“I don’t think there’s a crisis in football. I’ve never experienced one. Every three days there’s a game to fight for and win.

“It’s 11 against 11, they have to do their best. We are professionals, we’ve wanted to compete since we were all born. I don’t believe in crisis.”

Meanwhile, Fabregas has overseen a promising start to the season at Como, who have lost just one of their first seven Serie A matches.

The Spaniard also reflected on his connection with the Italian club, explaining how much it had changed since he arrived four years ago as a player.

Como and Manchester United are both seeking to improve their positions in the Champions League league phase, with each club having collected three points before their meeting.
