Barcelona Set Their Sights on €65m-rated Aston Villa Star But Face Competition From Bayern Munich

According to a report by Barca Universal on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, Barcelona are keeping tabs on Aston Villa midfielder Johan Manzambi as sporting director Deco considers possible additions to the squad ahead of next summer. However, Bayern Munich are also interested in the Swiss international, setting up potential competition for his signature.

Spanish publication MARCA reports that the 21-year-old has attracted attention from several leading European clubs following his performances for Aston Villa. Despite the growing interest, securing his services could prove difficult given the Premier League club’s substantial investment in the player.

Bayern Munich have reportedly been monitoring Manzambi since his time at Freiburg and remain interested in his development. Aston Villa paid €60 million to bring the midfielder to England during the summer, meaning Barcelona could face a significant financial challenge if they decide to pursue a deal.

The youngster’s recent displays have impressed scouts across Europe, with recruitment teams increasingly viewing him as a player with considerable long-term potential. English journalist Graeme Bailey, speaking to MARCA, highlighted the attention Manzambi has attracted from major clubs.

“We know that scouts from some of Europe’s top clubs have been very impressed by Manzambi’s performances,” Bailey said.

He also revealed that some observers believe the midfielder could develop into an elite player, with interested clubs already assessing his progress before making any decisions about a potential transfer.

“Several of them regard him as a ‘superstar in the making’. Work is already underway behind the scenes, whilst potential suitors assess his development and long-term prospects,” Bailey added.

Manzambi’s contribution in the final third has further enhanced his reputation. He has reportedly registered three goals and three assists in six appearances this season, underlining his ability to contribute offensively as well as fulfil his midfield duties.

Despite Barcelona’s interest, a move to Spain is far from certain. The Catalan club must carefully manage its finances before committing to another expensive signing, particularly with Aston Villa having spent a considerable amount to secure the midfielder.

Barcelona are understood to be considering Manzambi as a potential option for next summer rather than an immediate January target. Any move could depend on the club’s available budget, possible departures and how the midfielder continues to develop throughout the campaign.

Bayern Munich’s interest could further complicate Barcelona’s plans, although Manzambi reportedly prefers to remain at Aston Villa for the time being. Continuing to develop under manager Unai Emery is believed to be an attractive prospect for the young midfielder.

As a result, a January departure appears unlikely, with next summer potentially offering a more realistic opportunity for interested clubs to explore a deal.

With Manzambi reportedly valued at around €65 million, Barcelona would need to weigh the potential benefits of signing him against the financial demands of the transfer. Whether the Spanish giants can match Bayern Munich’s interest and persuade Aston Villa to consider selling could determine the midfielder’s future.
