Ballon D’Or: Cristiano Ronaldo leads fan vote for greatest winner of all time

According to a report by Daily Post on Tuesday October 20, 2026, Cristiano Ronaldo is leading an official fan vote organized by France Football to determine the greatest Ballon d’Or winner of all time.

The organisers confirmed the development in a post on the Ballon d’Or’s social media platforms as voting continues following its launch in early October 2026.

The poll features 10 football legends who have won the prestigious award multiple times, giving fans the opportunity to select the player they consider the greatest winner in the history of the honour.

“Cristiano Ronaldo is leading,” the organisers announced.

They also encouraged supporters to continue participating in the vote, with voters standing a chance to win two tickets to the 2027 Ballon d’Or ceremony.

Among the other legends included in the competition are Argentina captain Lionel Messi, former France midfielder Michel Platini, Kevin Keegan, Brazilian great Ronaldo Nazario, Marco van Basten and Johan Cruyff.

Ronaldo’s position at the top of the poll highlights his enduring popularity and influence in world football. The Portuguese captain has enjoyed an outstanding career, earning widespread recognition for his goalscoring records, major trophies and individual achievements.

His long-standing rivalry with Messi has also remained a major talking point among football supporters, with fans frequently debating which of the two superstars deserves greater recognition.

However, France Football’s announcement does not mean Ronaldo has won the poll, as voting is still ongoing and the final outcome remains undecided.

The competition is a fan vote to identify the greatest Ballon d’Or winner of all time, rather than the annual award itself.

Fans can continue voting for their preferred legend as the organisers await the final result.
