Angel Reese made a statement on Monday after becoming the youngest player to score at least 30 points and grab at least 15 rebounds in the WNBA postseason. After failing to score in the entire second half of Game 1 of the WNBA Finals, Angel Reese bore the brunt of criticism for Atlanta’s loss. However, in Game 2, Reese let her game do all the talking, sometimes quite literally, as the Dream outmaneuvered the Golden State Valkyries 79-65 in the second matchup.

Given how tight Game 1 of the WNBA Finals was, fans expected plenty of fireworks in Game 2. And they were not disappointed. In one such moment, Reese was seen trash-talking to one of her opponents.

With just about 1:04 left in the first quarter, Reese was seen attempting a free throw. But before taking her shot, she had an exchange with Valkyries’ Aminata Gueye, saying, “You can f*** with me
Bum ass,” per a post by Legion Hoops.

Reese then converted the free throw, giving Atlanta a narrow 19-18 lead before making her presence felt on defense. Reese, the Defensive Player of the Year, swatted away Gueye’s layup attempt at the other end.

This play reflected Atlanta’s growing control of the contest. The Dream carried a narrow 39-37 lead into halftime, but Golden State briefly took the lead early in the third quarter. Atlanta responded with a decisive 21-9 run in the period, leaving the Valkyries struggling to keep pace. Golden State couldn’t recover from the deficit, as the Dream pulled away for a 79-65 victory.

Angel Reese made her intentions clear right at the outset. She put up 15 points and 7 rebounds in the first half. Flipping the script from the last game, Reese added another 15 points and nine rebounds in the second half. This road win could have huge implications for Atlanta down the stretch, and Reese and Co. showed that they are a team to be reckoned with.

“I’m just doing whatever it takes to win,” Reese said after the game during an on-court interview. “This environment is tough to play in. Shout out to the fans and shout to my team, though – we came and fought. Game 1 was tough for us, but we moved on and turned the page and got back to who we are.”

Reese now joins the elite company of players like A’ja Wilson, Jonquel Jones, Breanna Stewart, Candace Parker, and Lisa Leslie as the only players to post at least 30 points and 15 rebounds in the postseason, and is the youngest of them at 24 years old.

With the series tied, Reese and Co. will welcome the Valkyries to a blockbuster Game 3, now scheduled for the State Farm Arena on Wednesday.
