Around 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, Oklahoma County deputies were called to a home along W. Atlanta in Jones on a report that a man had tried to carjack his own mother.

The victim told investigators that the suspect, 29-year-old Brandon Brookshire, held a gun to her stomach and beat her.

She was able to escape at the same moment a Jones police officer was driving by the scene.

After flagging the officer down, the officer was able to call the Oklahoma County Sheriff's Office tactical team.

Authorities say Brookshire ran back into the home and barricaded himself inside.

After a 6-hour standoff, the Oklahoma County Sheriff's Office tactical team brought down the front of the home and Brookshire was taken into custody.

"The first thing we want to say about this specific incident is that it never should have happened in the first place," said Oklahoma County Sheriff Tommie Johnson III.

In May, Johnson said Brookshire was convicted on five counts after he held a 13-year-old at gunpoint.

Online records indicate that Brookshire pleaded guilty to two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, assault while masked, attempting to aid escape, and resisting an officer.

He was given a suspended sentence for all counts and was released on probation.

"On all five counts, Mr. Brookshire was then released on probation, putting him back into the community, putting other family members, other citizens at risk of his violent behavior. And that is what we saw the other day. We are grateful for the outcome, that nobody got hurt, but this certainly could have been prevented," Johnson said.
