Kwankwaso Blast Atiku, Says ‘You Are Not A Good Alternative’, as NDC Rules Out Withdrawal for ADC
October 19, 2026No Comments The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has dismissed suggestions that its presidential ticket could withdraw from the race in favour of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), accusing the ADC Presidential Campaign Council of engaging in unnecessary attacks against its leadership and presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
The NDC stated that it had no intention of stepping down for the ADC or any other political party, insisting that its presidential ticket remained confident in its capacity and readiness to lead Nigeria.
The position was contained in a statement in which the party expressed concern over what it described as attacks directed at its leadership, Obi and the NDC by the ADC Presidential Campaign Council.
According to the statement, the ADC campaign team should concentrate on presenting the credentials, competence and achievements of its own presidential candidate rather than attempting to discredit rival parties and their candidates.
The NDC maintained that its campaign had focused on presenting its record, leadership capacity and policy direction to Nigerians, rather than engaging in political attacks against other contenders.
It accused the ADC Presidential Campaign Council of attempting to create the impression that the NDC was working for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) or might withdraw from the presidential contest at the last minute to support the ADC candidate.
The party described the allegations as unfounded, insisting that neither it nor its presidential ticket was acting on behalf of the APC or any of its candidates.
The party also warned its supporters against what it described as possible attempts to mislead them on the eve of the election with claims that the NDC presidential ticket intended to step down in favour of the ADC.
It said its position remained unchanged and that there was no reason for it to withdraw from the presidential race.
“We will not withdraw our candidature for the ADC or any other party. We remain confident in our capacity, competence, and readiness to lead Nigeria,” the statement declared.
The NDC further argued that the ADC Presidential Campaign Council should direct its attention towards addressing allegations reportedly levelled against its candidate by Vice President Kashim Shettima rather than focusing on Obi and the NDC leadership.
The statement did not provide further details of the allegations referenced against the ADC candidate.
The NDC also criticised the APC-led administration, declaring that the government had failed to meet the expectations of Nigerians.
However, the party argued that the ADC did not offer a better alternative, presenting its own presidential ticket as a credible option for voters seeking a change in leadership.
According to the statement, the NDC ticket possesses the experience, credibility, competence and political support required to address Nigeria’s pressing challenges.
The party claimed that its support base cuts across Northern and Southern Nigeria, describing its presidential ticket as a unifying platform capable of bringing together citizens from different backgrounds.
It said its proposed leadership approach would prioritise national unity and address critical sectors, including security, education, agriculture, infrastructure, healthcare and the economy.
The NDC maintained that Nigeria required leadership capable of tackling insecurity, strengthening public institutions, improving access to essential services and creating an environment for economic growth.
Reaffirming its position in the opposition landscape, the NDC described itself as a formidable political force and urged its supporters to remain focused on securing victory at the polls.
The party called on its members and well-meaning Nigerians to continue supporting its presidential ticket, insisting that it remained committed to offering an alternative to the APC-led government.
It also urged supporters not to be distracted by claims suggesting that the party would abandon the presidential contest in favour of another political platform.
The statement underscores the political disagreements between the NDC and the ADC as parties seek to strengthen their positions ahead of the election.
The NDC reiterated that its presidential ticket would remain in the race and continue presenting its proposed policies and leadership credentials to Nigerians.
